The critics are unanimous: Le Sélect Bistro is the most authentic Parisian bistro this side of the Atlantic, with great Bistro food, a traditional zinc bar, jazz on the soundtrack, friendly and attentive service, and the best winelist in the city: just close your eyes and you could be in the City of Light... except that the service is more gracious.
Downstairs in the wine cellar, there are 1,200 different labels and 95 beers from all parts of the globe. We buy our wines en primeur as soon as they've been released, and cellar them in ideal conditions. This allows us to keep our prices very fair. If you've got a special wine of your own, then you're very welcome to bring it to Le Sélect - just let us know in advance. We charge a modest corkage fee which varies depending on the level of service required.
The rear garden is equipped with infra red heaters, making it possible to lunch or dine longer on a cool evening. This is particularly helpful for private functions if guests wish to have a drink outside before coming in for dinner.
Meanwhile, as proprietor Jean-Jacques Quinsac remains busy cellaring his new discoveries of hard-to-find regional products of great value and organic wines, Chef Albert Ponzo is at the stove, back from visiting new suppliers. The direction he is giving the menu is exciting as most –but not all– of the ingredients he uses are now organic or products from traditional farming, certified by Local Food Plus. Most Fish and seafood come from fisheries or aquaculture farms certified sustainable by Ocean Wise, and red meat from grassfed animals. It costs Chef Ponzo a lot more, but prices at Le Sélect remain largely unchanged from five years ago when we moved from overcrowded Queen Street West to spacious Wellington street.
